It’s not so bad to live in a barn- if you build one of our barn inspired home plans! Home plans 90685 and 65922 conjure up farm life nostalgia by replacing the traditional roof with the classic gambrel style roof. Instead of a hay loft, these gambrel roofs accommodate bedrooms and a bonus room. Movies, books and even personal experience have created a soft spot in the American heart for a big red barn and the simple lifestyle of a farm surrounded by rolling pastures, corn fields and milling animals. Here, you wake when the rooster crows so you can milk the cows and soon enjoy a breakfast of home cooked bacon & eggs. Even if you must pass on the cattle and horses, a barn style home will be the perfect compromise, and you will love the updated and upscale elements.

Tall front windows on home plan 90685 attract immediate attention, and the tower emulates the grain silo that you would see standing beside a real barn. With this open floor plan, the windows light up three quarters of the home including the foyer, kitchen, dining and living room. A heat circulating fireplace is located in the center of the living space, and the two-story ceiling reaches uninterrupted into the roomy gambrel roof. Walk through the glass doors for a lovely front grilling porch.

The kitchen is positioned into a bay window on the left side of the house. Pendant lights hang over the breakfast bar and sink, and abundant natural light brings out the shine in the gray marble counter tops. White cabinets and black appliances create a clean and refined look for this finished kitchen. A spiral staircase leads up to the “tower retreat” where we find a balcony looking into the living room and two bedrooms sharing one full bath.

Conforming to more of a traditional design, home plan 65922 is utilizing the “barn” side for a two car garage and upstairs bonus room. A sun room provides a delightful and sunny spot for plant enthusiast to display their greenery, and it is viewable from the living room. The living room has 11’ high ceilings, brick wood burning fireplace and easy access to the rocking chair rear porch via a French door. The master suite has a built-in desk and book shelves and French door access to the rear porch as well. The bonus room is easily accessible from the entrance foyer and provides a great isolated spot for a kids playroom. This is a super energy saving home featuring 2×6 exterior walls, 12” attic insulation and many other energy saving features.
