House Plan with In-Law Suite

House Plan 98366 offers 2400 square feet of living space which includes 2 master bedrooms, 2 children’s bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. The 2nd master bedroom is part of the private mother-in-law suite in the rear of the house.

The home’s exterior is Southwestern Style with a combination of brick and stucco siding. Across the front porch we see three sets of French doors, each set topped with an arched window. At the main entry, you are greeted by a spacious living room. From the dining room, there is a diagonal sight line to the fireplace.

If you prefer to separate the kitchen from the living space, this plan is for you. The kitchen is partially open to the breakfast room and the dining room, and natural light streams in from the adjoining rooms and the French doors.

Notice how the best traffic flow is achieved with special arrangement among these rooms—even the corner entryway to the utility room helps to prevent collisions when laundry baskets are carried back and forth to the bedrooms. There is no space wasted with long, boring hallways.

In the master suite, we have a vaulted ceiling which continues into the semi-open bath. Although there is no main door to the bathroom, the tub and double sinks are out of sight from the main room, and the water closet is tucked away in the corner for privacy.

Two children’s bedrooms occupy the opposite end of the house where they share a full bathroom. Outside is a patio where you can have meals with your family and watch the kids play in the backyard.

Of course, the best feature of this design is the in-law suite because it serves so many needs. An older relative would be quite at home as they enjoy space to themselves and close proximity to the family. A three car garage separates the in-law suite from the main house, allowing the family member(s) to have their own convenient parking space and an indoor pass-through to the main house. There is also a covered porch connection to the laundry room of the main house.

If you love to entertain, you may be interested in building a home with a guest suite. Instead of just a spare bedroom, this design offers your guests something of a “home away from home.” Your guests will be comfortable whether they are moving in long term or just spending the weekend in your home.

For additional income, you may decide to rent out the mother-in-law suite. Your renter would be almost completely independent of the main house as they have a side entry door, kitchen, bathroom and living room. Additional features include a double vanity in the bathroom, walk in closet, hall closet and bookshelf.
