This irresistible design calls for rough sawn cedar shake siding (Hardie Board makes a great low maintenance product) and western red cedar in the eaves, porch pillars and decorative gable trim. Semi-coursed, roughly rectangular cut stone makes up part of the exterior where you see the “battered” walls. Battered describes the narrow shape that slopes down to a wider base. In Medieval times, walls were build with a wider base to withstand the force of a battering ram, however these walls are added for the arts and crafts aesthetic. An over sized steel\/glass front door with wrought iron grill\/scroll work measures 4′ wide by 9′ tall!<\/p>\n

Proceed from the foyer and notice the stepped ceiling in the dining room and the family room, where it reaches a maximum of 12′. A cozy double-sided wood burning fireplace separates these rooms.
